The Election Commission of India has prohibited both factions of the Trinamool Congress from utilizing the party's official name and symbol in forthcoming byelections.
This directive stems from an unresolved internal dispute over the party's leadership and assets, leading to the EC's inability to ascertain a legitimate majority.
Candidates associated with either faction will be compelled to contest the byelections as independents or under new, distinct symbols allocated by the commission.
